Snow in Haute-Savoie: 80 cm in the mountains and on the plains

Are you wondering whether snow will finally fall in the lowlands and mountains of Haute-Savoie this week? We checked the latest weather forecasts, and it’s excellent news, with heavy snowfall expected! Up to 80 cm of fresh snow is expected in the mountains, particularly in the Mont-Blanc and Aravis ranges, while in the lowlands, a light blanket of snow could form from an altitude of just 500 meters. This forecast is a real boon for skiers eagerly awaiting the start of the season and for everyone dreaming of beautiful, romantic winter landscapes.

Up to 55 cm of fresh snow in the mountains

According to Météo-France, Haute-Savoie ski resorts will receive up to 55 cm of snow. La Clusaz (55 cm), Samoëns (47 cm) and Flaine (46 cm) are set to get plenty. Snowfall will begin on Sunday evening (2 cm in Châtel), then intensify on Monday (15 cm).

This prolonged precipitation will allow resorts to prepare their slopes. Châtel will benefit from this windfall. I recommend booking now.

Snow in the lowlands: limited risk

The rain-snow line will drop to 750 meters:

  • Above 1500 m: 45-55 cm
  • 1000-1500 m: 30-45 cm
  • Lowlands: no snow, rain

No snow in the lowlands. Opt for indoor activities and mountain trails. Check the regular weather updates.

My practical tips for enjoying the snow (and avoiding any hassles)

Take care on the roads: make sure you have the right equipment!

The Mountain Law applies in Haute-Savoie and 33 other departments. Between November and March, your vehicles must be equipped with winter tires or chains. Although fines are not being issued, this rule remains crucial for your safety.

I strongly recommend checking your equipment before setting off. When I travel in the mountains, I always prefer to be prepared. It helps avoid a lot of trouble on snowy roads.

Great news for the start of the ski season

Ski resorts in Haute-Savoie are actively preparing their slopes to welcome skiers. Early snowfall is an excellent sign for the season ahead. Check the official ski resort opening dates to find out when the ski areas will open. Some resorts could bring forward their opening dates thanks to this early snowfall.

Enjoy the snowy landscapes; they’re beautiful and perfect for photos!
